Ju Anqi, the director of the documentary “Lou”, believes that the architectural philosopher Louis Kahn has already explained it well: “The value of architecture lies in its ability to become a tool for social progress. Architecture is closely connected with society and people. In the evolution of time and ideology The generated spirituality is architectural heritage. Protecting and exerting the power of cultural heritage is not only a respect for the achievements of human civilization, but more importantly, the defense of our homeland.”

Director Ju Anqi spent three years on his own to search and discover the current revitalization status of China’s architectural heritage. In the film “The Building”, he went to the architectural heritage sites in China’s metropolises to record the past and present of these architectural heritages and conduct interviews. We interviewed more than fifty architects, experts, scholars, and practitioners of architectural revitalization to understand the reality and in-depth thinking of architectural heritage in China. The film objectively presents the fate of a group of old buildings and explores the protection and utilization of architectural heritage in the process of urban renewal and sustainable development in my country. From both documentary and academic aspects, this film fills the image gap in the history of Chinese cultural heritage.
